Elisha is our biggest success story. Elisha is a work rider/assistant Coach in the employ of Harties Riding Club. He first represented the FSNC at the S A Championships 2009. Since then (chosen on merit only), he has been in every Open Team that either FSNC or NW has sent to an S A Championships.
I love ponies and enjoy teaching children to ride them. It is such a gift for children to have the opportunity to ride a safe pony. Riding these ponies gives children such confidence, which is why I have loved producing them with Bev Williamson.
ASSISTANT COACH – ELISHA MOKHOANZI (see CV under Coaches) patiently and knowledgeably handles most of the Beginner lessons. We offer 15minute lessons for riders from 3.5 years to approximately 6years. Half-hour lessons from 6yrs to approximately 8 years. Older Beginners for a full 45 minutes. Once riders are competent at walk and trot and confident to ride out of the Teaching ring they may move to our Head Coach, Beverley Williamson.
PART-TIME ASSISTANT COACH – AINSLEY BAILEY (see CV under people) is available to fill in if necessary.
We have a small group of well-schooled, safe School ponies and one horse. All are of good enough quality and training to be used by our Beginners at Shows.
We regularly hold fun and/or educational days for our pupils.
Once a rider is confident and wants to make progress in their riding careers, they are taught by Bev Williamson (see CV under people). Bev teaches Classical Riding Principals and gives all riders a sound base to build their riding career in any chosen Discipline. At Harties Riding Club, we concentrate on Dressage, Showjumping, Showing, and Equitation.
Riders usually ride their own or leased ponies and horses at this level. The ideal situation is for riders to have a weekly Private and a weekly group lesson. However, there are various other options that we offer. Private lessons are 45minutes, and Group lessons (approx four riders) are 60minutes.
At shows, Bev is on hand to assist her riders. No charge for home shows. Costs for away shows have to cover accommodation and travel. This cost is shared between the competing riders.
There are many South African Champions from the ranks of Harties (Bev Williamson) Riders.
STABLING
Our motto is Harties Horses are happy horses. Horses are kept in natural conditions as possible for competitive horses.
Horses are daily allowed in extensive paddocks with excellent grazing. Mares are in one paddock and geldings in another.
Harties has used Spurwing feed products for many years. However, all horses are custom-fed to their needs. If necessary, other feed products are purchased monthly.
Our farrier (Ozzie Balmer – also Callaho’s farrier) has been with us for many years. He comes every 5 to 6 weeks. Other farriers are welcome in the yard if you wish to use someone else. If necessary, John Mokhoanzi (our Headman) & Elisha (Assistant Coach and Work Rider) can replace a shoe. They have the tools required to do so.
Our Equine Dentist (Andrew Portch) and Saddle Fitters (Sommer Saddles) visit the yard at least every six months.
The ratio of grooms to horses is approximately five horses to one groom. Grooms are well trained and educated (Head Groom has been with Harties for three decades). All are supplied with Data every month to contact Bev, Owners, vets, plumber, electrician, etc.
Due to Covid 19 and trying to have fewer feet in Tack Room all grooms saddle up (bring in from paddock if necessary)and offsaddle.
All of our grooms can prepare a horse for the Show Ring. If you wish, all plaiting, trimming, quarter marks, etc., can be done by our grooms. It makes shows very easy!!!
John Mokhoanzi can also do most Saddlery repairs.
With the able assistance of Work Riders, Elisha, and Ainsley (see CV’s), Bev has produced wonderful riding horses, ponies, and champions in many disciplines.
Horses are schooled using the Classical method of training added to Natural Horsemanship. Horses and ponies produced in this manner are confident, happy individuals who give their riders pleasure. We can back horses from scratch, continue their training, or, if necessary, remedy most problems.
Ainsley is tiny and competent enough to ride and school ponies from 1,22m. Schooling fees are dependent on the number of days per week ridden. Please get in touch with us for more details.
All equestrians who wish to take part in any SAEF formally (South African Equestrian Federation) structure belong to a relevant Club in their District or at least in their Province.
The Harties Riding Club is the official portal to competing or officiating for our members. We are registered with the South African Equestrian Federation as an official Equestrian Club for the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District, North West.
Annually we register with any Discipline in which our members wish to be active. Our members include: Showing, Dressage, Equitation, and Showjumping judges, plus we have a qualified and a Learner Course Designer.
Annually, Harties Club will award Club Colors to their riders/members that have had outstanding results in the previous 12 months. 1st January to the 31st December 2022.
Colors will be awarded to
Riders and Coaches that have been awarded Club Colors will be entitled to wear the Harties official Club Color clothing. Any other person may not wear official Club Color clothing.
